Gaumutra - Benefits and Usage Guidelines

 In Ayurveda, urine of eight animals is described Cow, Buffalo, Goat, Camel, Elephant, Horse, Sheep & Donkey. Gomutra (cow’s urine) is the best as compared to urine of other animals. Gomutra has wide no. of properties, and it aids in digestion, stimulates digestive fire and destroys skin diseases.

Gomutra is astringent, bitter, pungent, in taste light to digest, corrosive, hot in nature (ushna), sharp (tikshna), pachak (aids in digestion), stimulates digestive fire, breaks down hard stools, increases pitta, improves intelligence, slightly sweet, sarak, lehan (scrapping property), dewtroys kapha, vayu, skin disorders, Gulma, Ascites, Anaemia, Leucoderma, pain, piles, prurites, asthma, ama-jwara (fever), cough, retains malas, Anorexia, inflammation, diseases, of mouth, eyes, skin, Diarrhoea in females, dysuria. 

Important point to note is Gomutra should not be consumed raw, and be used filtered through a 4-folded cloth before usage. Alternatively it should be consumed under guidance of a ayurvedic medical practitioner.
